The IPSC Handgun World Shoot is known for its competition — the stages, the scores, and the champions. But anyone who has ever attended knows that it’s about more than that. At WSXX, Shooting Stuff saw first-hand how much this sport depends on people to make it happen.
From the vendor area to the shooting line, WSXX was full of stories. Competitors travelled across continents to be here. Families came to support their shooters. Coaches and mentors stood behind their athletes. Range officers and volunteers put in long hours to make sure every stage ran safely and smoothly.
At the DAA stand, we met shooters who came looking for that last piece of gear to make their rig complete. We talked to veterans of the sport who had competed in multiple World Shoots, and to first-time participants experiencing the atmosphere for the very first time. Every conversation reminded us that IPSC isn’t just about accuracy and speed — it’s about dedication and community.
Some of the most memorable moments weren’t about winning or losing. They were about connections. A shooter swapping notes on gear setup with a competitor from another country. A young athlete talking about the years of training that led to this stage. A family explaining how they plan holidays around matches because IPSC has become a way of life.
For Shooting Stuff, telling these stories was just as important as running the DAA stand. By meeting the people behind the sport, we got to share a part of IPSC that can’t be measured on a scoresheet. It’s the side of the sport that makes long hours of training worthwhile and explains why shooters keep coming back, year after year.
We also saw how South Africa’s role as host gave local shooters a chance to connect with the international community in a way that doesn’t often happen. Friendships were built, networks expanded, and the South African IPSC family became part of a much bigger story.
These stories will stay with us long after the last target is scored. They remind us that shooting is about more than performance — it’s about people. At WSXX, we were proud to capture that side of the sport and share it with the world.
