In 1989 I bought my first Glock. A Glock 17 Gen 1. At the time it was the strangest-looking pistol most people had ever seen — plastic, angular, and nothing like what we were used to. I thought it was remarkable.
I've used Glock pistols in competition and carried them for self-defence ever since.
Through every generation, I kept coming back to the same thing: nothing has ever quite matched the grip texture of that original Gen 1.
Glock Generation 1 to 6
Glock has changed a lot in 35 years. Some changes I've welcomed (drop-free mags). Some I've been less enthusiastic about (finger grooves).
That's what happens when you're a traditionalist.
I'll be honest with you. When Glock launched the Gen 6 at SHOT Show in January, I wasn't convinced. I've been shooting Glock since 1989 and I've always been a Gen 1 man at heart.
Here's my verdict after shooting the Glock Gen 6 in our own Shooting Range. I liked it more than I expected to.
Here is why: The trigger is better. The flat face changes the feel at the break in a way that's immediately noticeable. The undercut gives you a higher grip than any factory Glock I've shot, and that matters — less muzzle flip, faster second shot. The RTF-6 texture is aggressive without being unpleasant. It's the most ergonomically refined Glock they've ever built.
After 30 years in business, Glock is still one of the brands we're most proud to carry. Daily.
